When it comes to taking care of your skin, having the right routine, products and equipment in place is crucial. So we’ve put together the ultimate face care routine for you to try out yourself. It’s clear skin and smooth sailing ahead!
Cleanse
The first, and most important step of any face care routine is cleansing. It’s a crucial part because it cleans your skin. It removes all the dirt, oil and makeup that can sit clogged in your pores, not to mention the pollution that the elements can cause to become trapped in your skin.
You can cleanse using different products, including cleansing water, balms, oils or face washes. Whatever your preferred method, you should cleanse twice a day to make sure there’s no residual dirt in your pores. This is what causes breakouts and blemishes to develop, so don’t be tempted to skip this one!
Moisturise
After your skin is nice and clean, you’ll need to moisturise it. Now one thing to warn you about is that there are a lot of different face creams on the market, and in different formulas. Some are gel-based, cream-based, and thanks to technology, even water-based now. You can opt for whichever formula suits your skin type the best. The great thing about moisturiser is that it can incorporate lots of other ingredients to give your skin an extra boost. So pay attention to the ingredients list and pick your products wisely.
Great hydrating ingredients include: hyaluronic acid, squalane, aloe vera and shea butter.
If your skin is on the drier side, you can choose to moisturise with an oil too. It’s great as a last step to really lock in moisture and help all your other skincare products perform their best and deliver their full potential to your skin. Oils such as marula oil, olive oil and hemp oil make great choices.
SPFs
Contrary to popular belief, SPF isn’t just needed in the summer or when you’re going on holiday. Every day our skin is exposed to the sun’s rays and needs protecting – yes, even in winter. UV rays are even present in cold weather, but are more powerful in the summertime. Failing to protect your skin from the sun is bad for your skin as it can speed up the aging process, and in worst case scenarios lead to skin cancer.
You should use a factor 25 – 30 SPF product each day on your skin, after your moisturiser to keep it protected and soft. Sunscreen comes in two formulas, mineral and chemical, which have their own positives and negatives. Either way, you should be using this once a day, and topping up in hot weather.
Treatments
Using treatments on your face isn’t solely limited to when you’re at the spa. Using treatments such as eye creams and serums is a great way to not only keep your skin healthy, but to restore, heal and repair it too. Whatever your skin concern, from dryness to blemishes to spots or oiliness, there’s a treatment out there for you. And investing in these could transform your skincare game.
