SkyCityCasino.com Launched in Malta, New Zealand

A subsidiary of New Zealand’s SKYCITY Entertainment Group ‘SkyCity Malta’ has launched its new online casino in partnership with Gaming Innovation Group Inc (GiG). SkyCityCasino.com will be operated out of Malta by GiG. It will provide users based in New Zealand with a full suite of casino games, slots and virtual sports.

SKYCITY CEO Graeme Stephens said that the team is elated. It is thrilling to be working with SkyCity Malta & partners GiG on the project. “This is an exciting day for SkyCity and one we have been working towards for some time alongside SkyCity Malta and our partners at GiG,” he said.

The plans to launch the gaming online was announced by SKYCITY in May. At that time they say they didn’t have any immediate intentions to monetize the platform.

Stephens mentioned that the ultimate plan is to have regulated online casinos and gaming market. The site launch is a step towards the same and to grow together. “The site launch is another step on our journey of pursuing opportunities to grow and diversify our earnings, addressing a new, fast growing industry which is highly complementary to our land-based activities and offering customers a multi-channel gaming experience,” he said.

New Zealand has been debating the merits of a regulated online gaming industry for some time now. However it is not illegal for residents to play on offshore sites. The country’s offshore online gambling market is estimated to be around a huge amount, NZ$160 million annual approximately.

SKYCITY maintains it is supportive of the New Zealand online casino market. That’s why it wants government to introduce an appropriate licensing regime for operators and impose taxes and mandatory host responsibility requirements.
